today I started using Parallels Plesk Panel for Linux in Version 10.3.1 . First of all, I have to give you some specs of the server:

First of all I tried to get it rooted. For Android 2.3.2 you have to use the SpeedMod Kernel for the SGS. You have to wait 5 to 10 minutes to get the new android market app (google remote installation). Samsung is still using the RFS file system. This was annoying me. So I tried to convert from RFS to ext4.  To be continued…

Noticed Bugs

• Sometimes Odin 1.7 stucks. Try again…
• The new ROM seems to be faster than older versions using the cranky Eraser File System (RFS)
• Maybe when the display is turned off and you try to turn it on the display will still be black. You have to reset the battery.
• Some applications stuck (e.g. WhatsApp, SMS, E-Mail)

I just noticed that the most popular social network our “facebook” has currently just a blank page. I don’t know wheter it’s only the status in Germany or all over the world?! I don’t know their technical infrastucture very much. Please let me know if you know more about it.

The first time this evening I wanted to get eyes on the site was 22:15 MEST.

the upgrade from WordPress 2.x to WordPress 3.0 is very easy. You just have to use the automatic update function.
Make sure all the plugins you’re using are compatible to WP 3.0. Otherwise disable incompatible plugins or wait until the plugins are native to 3.0.

So tell me, what are you thinking about the new WordPress?

First, you have to know, that there’s a kernel module called “eeepc laptop” which can’t be loaded when GRUB isn’t configured for it. You have to tell the system which kind of ACPI model will be needed.

• Open /etc/default/grub with your favourite editor
• Go to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT and add the following param: acpi_osi=Linux.

The config line should look this way:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux"

Then save the config file and execute the command “update-grub”
to update grub.

FYI: There looks like to be a bug that your pppoe-connection won’t work
and your eth0 NIC won’t be available after you edited the GRUB-Config.

For Office 2010, Microsoft has developed a new Program called Click-to-Run which allows Office 2010 to get the features it needs over the interned an these files will be stored in the virtual drive. To remove Click and Run clearly, you have to run Microsofts C2R-Removal tool. Here are the steps to do it:

• Download the C2R Removal from: c2r.microsoft.com/tools/cleanc2r.zip (NOTE: THIS LINK IS DOWN! Use: http://download.ikkerus.net/cleanc2r.zip
• Run CleanC2R.exe to remove C2R and the virtual drive
• You will be asked to reboot. Just click ok, CleanC2R.exe will be started again

After all the steps are finished your system should be clean. For more information, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Microsoft has removed the C2R Removal Tool from it’s official download page. So I uploaded it to my webspace. You can download it here.

• First, plug the USB-Device in. Then start your Laptop/Netbook and boot up your own Ubuntu.
• Your device will be automatically discovered
• Your device should not be mounted, because automount is disabled for usb modem devices by default, otherwise unmount the device to switch from datastore to UMTS/GSD mode

umount /dev/$usbdevice /media/$mountpoint

• Turn to the Ubuntu network manager which is the generally used program in the most distributions.

System -> Preferences -> Network Connection -> Mobile Boradband -> Add

• Then select your device which should be showed at the bottom of the wizard.
• Select your mobile service provider
• Select your pay method: Use “defaul” if you have a flatrate or volume contingent and “WebSessions” when you are using the Vodafone WebSessions
• Use Audomatic PPP for PPP Connection and select “Connect automatically”
• You will be asked to grant the device access.
• There’s another new option in the gnome network manager app – you can select “Enable Mobile Broadband”.

That’s where all happened

On my way back from T-Home and no updates on my internet connection speed, I saw more than the girl from before talking in the middle of the street and I looked and smiled to the ladies. I was almost left arrount the corner but chose to get back to them. As I arrived I asked: “Who does?” About five seconds later I had a kiss on my cheek and I signed the paper. The girls applauded an screamed and all the people at the street looked at us. That was a very cool and funy experience.

I made a few changes about my webspace – not even changed the Provider. So what I’d like to tell you is that there are some pictures missing and there are a lot of spam comments I marked as spam a few minutes ago.
So whats new?

First, we have to download the Ubuntu 9.10 Server image from ubuntu.com (x86 or x64 based on your hardware or virtual machine). I will not explain everything here, something included in this QnD are internet basics.

I used VirtualBox 3.1.2 on a Windows Vista (piece of garbage) to install it. I just created a new machine with Ubuntu x64 and a 10 GB fixed size (for performence) virtual harddisk file (.vdi). This will take some time…

When VirtualBox is creating the harddisk i was forced to create my ssh key using ssh keygen on another physikal Ubuntu 9.10 desktop machine.

ssh-keygen -t rsa

You will be asked were to store the key and if you want to use a passhrase (password) for this key (enter twice). I just left the directory for storing the key default and entered my own passphare.

Now its time to boot from the downloaded ISO-File and start installing Ubuntu on the virtual machine, but I will not explain every step here, just basics.

The language is some kind of what “you like to use to”. I like to use the english language because its default in the ICT and I have no problems using it. It’s important that you choose the right timezone (for several programs like postfix) so the installer will show you just the American English timezones, if you chose American English in the language setup. Just choose “other” to get the other timezones.

Later you have to create the system user. Please note that the password should have at least 8 caracters, otherwise Ubuntu will mark it as too weak, but you can continue with a weak password.

When you are at the point chosing packages (e.g. samba, mail etc.) you choose nothing. I think it is imperative to self-install everything you need.
If the installation of grub fails, just try it again. Maybe the device wasn’t found the first time in the device map.

Then boot wihout the mounted cd image and get the ip adress via “ifconfig” as root or “/sbin/ifconfig” as user. Please note, that if you want to be root by default installation of Ubntu, you have to get root access by using “sudo -s” and your own user password.

As root, just do the following first:

apt-get update

and

apt-get upgrade

SSH-Notice: You can use the local terminal or a ssh session by another system.

After that I imported my generated ssh key by using scp.

scp /home/USER/.ssh/id_rsa.pub USER@IPorDomainOFServer:.ssh/id_rsa.pub.client

Then you’ll be asked for the server’s user password.
Attention: Be aware of the “point” and the “double point” !

Now edit the id_rsa.pub.client to authorized_keys using the program “mv”.

At least edit the /etc/ssh/sshd_config, I will just output the edited lines here:

Port from 22 to another (no requred but recommended)
UsePAM from no to yes
PermitRootLogin from yes to no
