Howto: Remove Microsoft Office 2010 Click 2 Run

This post will tell you, how to remove the Office 2010 Click-to-Run Software and specially the mounted virtual drive in your Workspace.

For Office 2010, Microsoft has developed a new Program called Click-to-Run which allows Office 2010 to get the features it needs over the interned an these files will be stored in the virtual drive. To remove Click and Run clearly, you have to run Microsofts C2R-Removal tool. Here are the steps to do it:

After all the steps are finished your system should be clean. For more information, don’t hesitate to contact me.

UPDATE

Microsoft has removed the C2R Removal Tool from it’s official download page. So I uploaded it to my webspace. You can download it here.

Thanks to Richard for this advice.

Oh my goodness, THANK YOU! All of a sudden my laptop started running super slow and it was ridiculous. Tried to poke around to see what was going on and I saw the Click to Run Q drive and it kept telling me “access denied,” which is ridiculous because I’m the admin for this computer, it’s mine! Anyhow, searched, found this, it fixed it.

    Thanks again.

    @Crystal

doesn’t matter, there is a Microsoft system user that will be the owner of the virtual drive with access rights that the Administrator of yr PC still won’t be able to access at all.

I was chatting with HP tech because I wanted to remove this C2R from my PC. Told me to rename the Q drive. I did. THEN he sends me the link for CleanC2R. Ran it but gave me a message saying: Can’t find msizap.exe. Now he’s telling me to extract all instead of run. I don’t trust this mfer. Can I get some real knowledge from anyone experienced. Thanks

I receive the error: Service ‘Client Virtualization Handler’ (cvhsvc) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services.

You have to exekute C2R with administrator privileges to handle cvhsvc. :)

    Hi Garry,

maybe you have to connect .doc, .docx (and so on) documents with Word 2007. Hope this helps.

Finally got the thing out of the way, Click-to-run sounds like a good idea, however it did not work for my systems and files. I also dislike virtual drives on my computer telling me that I can not access control files. This whole idea did not work for me. If you buy a Dell in Indonesia all bets are off even if Dell really screwed up this time with Inspirion and Windows 7 software loaded on their computers.

IT WORKED! I was having a problem with a PC. I uninstalled Office 2010 Starter (and C2R) because it was not working and I was just going to reinstall it. WRONG! I kept getting a message that said “verion has fewer then two or more than four components”. It would not install. I Googled the message and got nowhere. So I started Googling various things and ended up on your site. I was not too hopeful but I decided to try your C2R removal tool anyway. Boy was I glad I did. It didn’t ask me to reboot but I rebooted anyway. Then I ran the setup program and it installed! Thank you!

This is a very ugly story you told. It still doesn’t look like that it has anything directly with C2R. You’re welcome.

Be careful with this tool. I used it and thought it worked until I tried to use my dvd drive now every time I use the drive I get a BSOD.

  46. January 30th, 2012 at 23:50 | #46

I’m not a techie. At all. So when this Click2Run error popped up on my machine I did all the usual searching to find solutions. Most of them were written in “techie”, a language I don’t speak. And frankly, it appeared if I made one wrong move my computer would be screwed.

Then I found your site. I followed your steps and it WORKED. Perfectly. I just wanted to say thanks for fixing my problem. And on behalf of all the other techno dorks like me, we’re very grateful for the expertise of people like yourself and more importantly, your willingness to share it. My computer’s happy and I’m elated that I can access the docs I need to get my work done. Blessings to you.

Please, please answer! I bought netbook with free Office starter but I didn’t realise that it came with Office 2010 trial and Office Click to Run. I would like to remove Office 2010 trial and Office Click to Run but keep Office Starter. Is it possible?
My understanding is that after running CleanC2R I’ll have no Office at all. Right? Thanks
